SKODA WHAT CAR? AWARDS 2020

Our winning streak at the What Car? Awards continues in 2020, driving off with two category wins and six price point victories. We scooped an impressive eight accolades this year, with the ŠKODA SCALA being crowned ‘Family Car of the Year’ and the ŠKODA SUPERB being awarded ‘Estate Car of the Year’ for the fifth year in a row. In addition, the ŠKODA SUPERB and SUPERB iV (our first plug-in hybrid) also went on to win a price point award, along with the ŠKODA FABIA Hatch, ŠKODA FABIA Estate, ŠKODA KAMIQ and ŠKODA KAROQ.

Family Car of the Year

ŠKODA SCALA SE 1.0 TSI 115PS

The SCALA saw off fierce competition to be named as the best in the sector. What Car? Editor Steve Huntingford said: “The SCALA is the latest in a long line of hugely impressive cars from ŠKODA, with its main strengths lying in its comfort and interior space."

Estate Car of the Year

ŠKODA SUPERB Estate SE Technology 2.0 TDI 150PS

Space is the name of the game in the estate car class, and so the ŠKODA SUPERB Estate wins for the fifth year in a row. With masses of storage room and total comfort for all passengers, it’s a brilliant estate car.

Best Family SUV for £20,000-£30,000

ŠKODA KAROQ SE L 1.5 TSI 150PS

You won't find a rival that offers a more cosseting ride than the KAROQ. Plus, it's extremely practical and its 1.5-litre petrol engine is punchy yet frugal. It's a very well-rounded family SUV.

Best Small SUV for less than £20,000

ŠKODA KAMIQ SE 1.0 TSI 95PS

The KAMIQ is the newest car in the ŠKODA range, but it saw off tough competition to be named best SUV for less than £20,000. Although it joined the ŠKODA range last November, the KAMIQ has already caused a stir in its sector.

Best Small Car between £14,000-£16,000

ŠKODA FABIA SE 1.0 TSI 95PS

The ŠKODA FABIA is a fine small car and incredible value for money if you choose carefully. What Car? awarded the 1.0 TSI 95PS in SE trim four out a five stars.

Best Estate Car less than £20,000

ŠKODA FABIA Estate SE 1.0 TSI 95PS

Explaining the FABIA's Estate's appeal, Steve Huntingford said: “It shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that the FABIA wins its price point. That’s because it’s an absolute bargain, netting buyers a lot of car for very little money.”

Best Plug in Hybrid less than £35,000

ŠKODA SUPERB iV SE Technology 1.4 TSI 218PS DSG

There's so much to like about the new plug-in hybrid version of the SUPERB. Its smooth zero-emissions running will help you to relax behind the wheel, while its 218PS output is enough for brisk acceleration when needed.

Best Executive Car less than £30,000

ŠKODA SUPERB SE Technology 1.5 TSI 150PS

Nothing else in the executive car class offers as much space as the SUPERB, whether that’s up front, in the rear or in the boot. It’s truly limousine-like and it delivers an all-round package that is simply unbeatable for the money.
